Results from Opatija

As mentioned in the previous post, Studio diip visited the 2nd World Youth Bridge Congress to test BCR on an international tournament. As expected we ran into some problems with the different conditions present at the tournament such as lighting, different cards and different playing habits. But eventually we were able to overcome most of these issues by tuning the program. Additionally the player’s got used to the system and the few changes it need very fast which reduced the amount of problems as we expected. More about the detection and testing can be read in the daily bulletin at page 10 and at the Nederlandse Bridge Bond (NBB) website (Dutch). Currently Studio diip is working hard on improving the detection system and will continue with producing 12 systems with a new camera mounting system for the World Championships in Veldhoven.

Preparations for Opatija, Croatia

On tuesday the 23rd Studio diip will travel to Opatija in Croatia for the World Youth Bridge Congress as mentioned earlier. To be able to test and show the capabilities of BCR we have produced another prototype, doubled the amount of dummy plates, printed custom table cloths and assembled another computer system. Additionally some new interesting features have been added to BCR. First of all it now has the ability to give an indication of the thinking time per player for both the card play and auction process. Secondly BCR is able to make a screenshot of the whole table every 5 seconds. These new features will become very useful for the often difficult referee decisions in bridge as they give much needed detailed information about what really happened at the table. In Opatija we will test the detection system in the semi-finals and finals.

Studio diip invited for World Youth Bridge Congress in Opatija

Studio diip is invited to record two tables during the quarter-finals, semi-finals and the finals of the World Youth Bridge Congress in Opatija, Croatia. During our stay we will test our current system status in preparation for the World Bridge Championships in October in Veldhoven. Currently we are working hard to get two systems assembled and the detection software ready for testing. The three day test will mainly focus on providing referee backup, showing the systems capabilities and gathering test data.

Remote Access for BCR

To be able to control all of the Bridge Card Readers during a tournament Studio diip investigated the use of remote access over a network connection. This enables us to log in to any BCR computer to troubleshoot from another computer or smartphone through a secure connection.
